PRAISE GOD!!!

All is well with my precious little boy!! We actually went today for the cranial ultrasound at Scottish Rite. Liam did great. He held still like a good little boy so they could take all kinds of pictures of his super smart brain :-). After the ultrasound tech was finished one of the doctors reviewed the images, and then the results were sent on to our Pediatrician (Dr. Evans). We did not really know the true results when we left, but the tech told us that if there had been any abnormalities that we would have had a consult with one of their doctors. She told us that the results would be sent to Dr. Evans and she would follow up with me about the results. She said that since it was Friday afternoon not to expect to hear anything until Monday. In which I replied... " You don't know my Peditrician" and I was right!! Dr. Evans called me TONIGHT and left a message at 8:45 to let me know that everything was just fine! She said she didn't want me to have to wait all weekend, and she will be calling me on Monday to follow-up. I LOVE her!! I am so thankful for all of you for thinking of us and praying for us. We are truly blessed with wonderful family and friends! I am so happy that my sweet little man is okay. God is so good!!

Liam's 9 month check-up...Praying for a "big head"

So, Liam had his 9 month check-up yesterday. Developmentally he is doing great!! Even adjusting for his prematurity he is ahead of the game :-). He now weighs 26 lbs. and 6 oz. (97%) actually down a little over a pound from his NICU follow-up. He is 30 1/2 inches tall (95%) and has a 18 3/4 inch head (95%). He actually had his first ear infection too, so he had to be put on antibiotics :-(. After doing all of the measuring, weighing, and poking around the Dr. said that she was a little concerned about how fast Liam's head was growing. It grew almost an inch since his last appointment in June. She said that some babies just have "big heads" and others in rare cases may have a condition called hydrocephalus. Dr. Evans ordered a Cranial Ultrasound so we are able to rule out that condition or any others that may be causing his increased head growth. While I was at the Dr.'s office I was fine...I guess it hadn't really hit me that this could be pretty serious. So, needless to say I kinda freaked out once I got home and was able to process everything. Imagining every possible horrible thing that could go wrong from cancer, to tumors, to you name it. I called the Dr.'s office back and requested that Dr. Evans call me to explain everything to me again. Thankfully she called back shortly, and reassured me that she is not at all concerned about tumors, or cancer or anything like that, she is just being extra cautious. And she said that the reason she wanted to go ahead and have the test done now is because while his fontanels are still open they are able to do ultrasounds which are non-invasive and do not expose them to radiation, whereas if we wait he would have to have a CT scan which involves radiation. She also said that she really feels that everything will come back "normal" meaning Liam just has a "big head". So, I guess that is what we are praying for... just a "big head"... I can live with that!! The Pediatrician's office has to schedule the test which is done at Scottish Rite, so they will call me and let me know when the appointment is. I am hoping it is sooner rather than later so I can quit worrying... well, about this anyways. I think as a mother we will always worry to an extent. I am so thankful for my family and friends who are so supportive and prayerful. I am truly blessed :-)!! So, in the meantime we will be praying for just a "big head"...

Liam is 9 Months Old!!!

9 Month Chair Picture

Trying to keep him from eating the bear. Notice I have given him a toy to distract him :-)

No more fangs... his two middle teeth came in. He now has 7 teeth, 4 on top and 3 on bottom

Distraction did not last long... keeping a 9 month old still for pictures is nearly impossible!!

I know I say this every month when I do these updates, but I can't believe how fast he is growing up!! He is becoming such a big boy! He is getting so much taller and thinning out so much! I don't know if he is actually losing any weight or just getting taller, but when I was looking back over some of his pictures from a few months ago I could not believe what a little chunk he was!! Not that he is not still chunky, but he is definitely getting much taller. He started sleeping in his own room last month, and now thanks to Nick's suggestion to put a fan in his room he is sleeping 12-13 hrs. EVERY night!!! He is sitting up on his own now and still rolling all over the place! He is "talking" up a storm and smiling and laughing all the time. He is such a good baby!! He has such an easy-going personality, every time we take him to the nursery at church they always say he is the best baby in there! Not to brag, but we already knew that :-)! He now has 7 teeth!! No more fangs. His favorite word is still "Dada" and he still has not said "Mama" yet! Maybe he doesn't have to ask for me because I am ALWAYS here?? Who knows...
He is officially on baby formula now. With him eating solid foods 3x a day and not nursing as often, I was only producing enough milk for him to nurse maybe once a day, so I went ahead a switched him over to formula. He is doing great with it and he even holds his own bottle. I am so thankful I was able to nurse as long as I did. I did not realize what an expense formula is. At least he is only taking 3 bottles a day! I can not imagine having to buy it when he was eating every three hours around the clock!! Usually after 12 months the Pediatrician will have him go off formula all together and go to whole milk instead. So, we only really have 3 months. Crazy!! Three months until my baby is ONE!!! I guess I better start the party planning. I hope I don't have a breakdown....
